Overheating at cruise revs
Temperatures that climb once the engine comes under load commonly trace back to a worn raw-water impeller, a fouled heat exchanger or a restricted seawater circuit — often old impeller vanes lodged downstream. We test the whole cooling circuit to find the actual restriction rather than guessing.
Salt water weeping from the aftercooler
The seawater-cooled aftercoolers on QSB, QSC, QSL and older 6BTA/6CTA engines are a well-known service item — o-rings and the dissimilar-metal housings corrode over time, and left unserviced they can eventually let salt water reach the intake. We strip, clean, pressure-test and reseal them on a proper service schedule.
Black smoke and won't reach rated RPM
Often a sign the engine isn't getting enough air — a soot- and salt-fouled aftercooler, a tired turbocharger — or the boat is over-propped and working the engine too hard. We diagnose the charge-air side and confirm the engine can load up cleanly to rated revs.
Corroded exhaust elbows or risers
Wet exhaust elbows on marine Cummins engines corrode from the inside out, and a failed elbow can let seawater track back into the turbo and cylinders. We inspect, replace and where it makes sense upgrade risers before they cause real engine damage.
Hard starting or cranks but won't fire
Frequently a fuel-supply issue — a failing electric lift pump, blocked filters or air in the fuel — rather than anything terminal. We work through the fuel supply system before any parts get replaced.
